Won Comeback of the Year Award at team banquet...Tanner is a prime example
of a class of newcomers that came in and contributed immediately to the Tennessee
effort...Tanner made the most of his last chance meet at the Georgia Tech
Invitational (May 19) by running a torrid 3:42.14 to win the 1500M run...The
time stands second on Tennessee's all-time record listing in the event, second
only to Tim Pitcher's 3:41.24 in 1993...Tanner's gutsy run shaved 2.65 seconds
off his previous PR to earn a solid provisional mark and a trip to the NCAA
Championships...At the NCAAs, Tanner took 18th in the semifinals of the 1500M
run in 3:47.98, but missed out on qualifying for finals...Tanner completed
a grueling combination of the 1500M run (sixth, 3:45.06) and the 5000M run
(20th, 15:21.92) on the final day of the SEC Championships (May 14)...Achieved
his 800M run PR of 1:49.24 at the Knoxville Invitational (April 30) to take
third...Got the second-best distance medley relay in school history (9:33.70)
off to fine start as Tanner ran the first leg of Tennessee's third-place team
at the Penn Relays (April 28)...Picked up valuable points for Tennessee with
third-place 1500M run finish (3:49.32) at the National Invitational Team Championships
(April 22) in Austin, Texas after posting the fastest preliminary time (3:50.65)...Ran
first leg on Tennessee's first-place DMR team (9:44.15) at the Sea Ray Relays
(April 15) and finished fourth in the 1500M run in 3:44.79...Won the 1500M
run in 3:47.86 and took ninth in the 800M run in 1:55.49 at the SEC Quad (April
1) in Auburn, Ala. ...Tanner ran a 1600M split of 4:07 in the Vols' fourth-place,
9:48.50 DMR effort at the Florida Relays (March 24).
Indoor- Wasted no time in adding his name to the Vol All-America slate
by running the lead-off leg on the distance medley relay team that earned
that distinction at the NCAA Indoors...At the NCAAs, the Vol DMR team finished
in fifth in 9:35.24, an indoor school record...One week earlier, Tanner ran
leadoff on the school record indoor DMR (yards) team, a 9:43.14 effort at
the Alex Wilson Invitational...Ran on third-place DMR team at the SECs that
posted a 9:45.57 finish...Finished 13th in 4:15.26 in the preliminaries of
the mile run at the SEC Championships...Ran best mile of the season at the
Alex Wilson Invitational in 4:11.16...Broke the tape in 4:12.79 to earn eighth
at the mile run and lead off for the second-place Vol DMR team (9:46.75) at
the at the Kroger Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.
Cross Country 2000- Voted team's Most Valuable Runner in near unanimous decision...Named All-SEC and All-Region...Fought off a hip injury to end the season strong with the squad's fastest 8K time (25:40.47) at the SEC Championships and 10K time at the NCAA South Regional (31:39.74)...Led the Vols with his 12th-place finish at the SEC Championships in 25:40.47...Also led Tennessee at the NCAA South Regionals with a season-best 10th-place finish in 31:39.74, narrowly missing an individual berth in the NCAA Championships...Ran a 26:14 to earn 17th, fourth among Vols, at the Greensboro Invitational...Took 49th, third-best among Vols, at the Wolverine Interregional Invitational.
BEFORE TENNESSEE- Transfer from Florida...Top times of 1:51.26 in the 800, fourth among current Vols, and 3:47.56 in the 1500M, second among current Vols...Ran a 14:22 in the 5000M...Finalist in the 1500M at the 1998 SEC Outdoors...Anchored Florida's fourth place distance medley relay team at the SEC Indoors.
