Harris found his way to the NCAAs by running a provisional, PR 1:48.45 to
finish third in the 800M run at the SEC Championships (May 14)...Harris' PR
of 1:48.45 is the fastest time by a Vol this year...The time is also the 10th
best all-time in the Vol record books...Broke the tape in 1:49.20 to take
16th in the 800M semifinals at the NCAA Championships, but missed qualifying
for the finals...Won bronze by clocking a 1:51.33 in the 800M run at the National
Invitational Team Championships (April 22) in Austin, Texas...Ran his season-best
400M dash at the Knoxville Invitational in 47.46 to earn third...Harris has
proven his worth as a relay athlete, as well...He ran the fastest split (45.8)
in Tennessee's provisional 4x400M relay effort in 3:04.72 at the Georgia Tech
Invitational (May 20), the seventh-fastest time in school history...Harris
posted the fastest split (45.4) on Tennessee's 4x400M relay for the NCAA Championships...At
the NCAAs, the Vol 4x400M relay team finished the semifinals in 11th with
a time of 3:06.26, the second-fastest Tennessee time of the season, to miss
qualifying for the finals...Ran third leg (45.4 split) on Tennessee's fifth-place
4x400M relay (3:07.13--a 45.4 split) at SECs...Ran the third leg on Tennessee's
second-fastest distance medley relay in school history (9:33.70--a 1:48.5
split) to take third at the Penn Relays (April 28).
Indoor- Wasted no time in adding his name to Tennessee's All-America
ledger as Harris ran a leg on the Vol distance medley relay team that earned
that distinction...Harris ran the third leg of the DMR at the NCAAs, where
the Vols finished fifth in 9:35.24, a school indoor record...Harris qualified
for the NCAAs in the 800M run, but concentrated on the DMR instead...Posted
a provisional 800M run time of 1:49.09 to finish fourth and mark his indoor
PR at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. ...The night before
his provisional 800M run time at the Alex Wilson Invitational, Harris ran
the third leg of Tennessee's school record indoor DMR (yards) team (9:43.14)...The
school record DMR performance was good enough for a NCAA provisional time...Ran
anchor on Tennessee's sixth-place 4x400M relay team at the SEC Indoors in
3:12.65, the best indoor time of the year for the Vols...Ran a 1:52.40 to
finish 10th in the 800M run prelims at the SECs, but did not qualify for finals...Grabbed
third by breaking the tape in 1:51.22 in the 800M run at the Kroger Invitational
in Blacksburg, Va. ...Harris also ran the second leg of Tennnessee's second-place
DMR (9:46.75) at the Kroger Invitational...Earned second in the 400M dash
in 49.41 at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational...Contributed valuable points
with his third-place finish (1:53.59) in the 800M run at the SEC Quad in Lexington,
Ky. ...Won the 400M dash in 48.02 at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
BEFORE TENNESSEE- Transfer from Alabama State where he competed for three seasons...Best 800M time of 1:51.2...Best 400M time of 46.70 stands tops among current Vols...Named the 800M Man of the Year by the Atlanta Track Club in 1996...Named All-Southwestern Athletic Conference twice...Named Most Valuable Runner his freshman and sophomore seasons at Alabama State...Served as team captain his last year at Alabama State...At Towers High School, won the 800M state, region and county championship twice.
