Lady Vols Open New Year With Arizona State Dual Meet
January 03, 2001 | Women's Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 3, 2001) -- Coached by Dan Colella, the University of Tennessee women's swimming and diving team will return to competition for the first time in 2001 by playing host to Arizona State University on Friday, January 5, at the UT Student Aquatic Center. The meet, held in conjunction with the UT men's team, will begin with diving at 4 p.m. and swimming at 5 p.m.
The Lady Vols take to the pool for the first time in NCAA competition since Dec. 3. The team took a week-long training break in Aruba before the winter holidays and competed at the Aruba Sprint Invitational. Tennessee enters the ASU meet just outside of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Top 25 rankings after being rated at No. 25 earlier in the season. The team has earned a 3-2 overall record so far this season and Arizona State will be the Lady Vols' first non-conference opponent in a dual meet.
The Sun Devils are ranked No. 19 in the latest CSCAA poll and have a dual meet record of 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10 conference. The team's most recent action was a pair of victories over No. 20 Northwestern and league foe Washington on Dec. 16.
Following the Arizona State dual meet, the divers will travel to Athens, Ga., for the Georgia Diving Invitational on Jan. 6-7. The meet will offer the divers their final opportunity to compete on the platform before the SEC Championships in February. The swimmers and divers will reunite for the team's final home meet of the season on Jan. 13 for a double dual contest against No. 20 Northwestern and No. 6 Auburn.
