Tannhauser, a native of Seattle, Wash., won the 1000-yard freestyle on Friday night verus Arizona State and also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle contested immediately after his 1000-yard freestyle victory.
The Vol junior then produced an impressive performance against Texas on Saturday and emerged as UT's high-scorer in the 121-120 upset of the Longhorns. Tannhauser won the 1000-yard freestyle by almost four seconds. He then delivered a dramatic come-from-behind win in the 500-yard freestyle over an All-America swimmer from Texas. The win set the stage for the Vols to pull ahead of Texas in the final race.
Tennessee head coach John Trembley identified the win as "the turning point of the meet." Praising Tannhauser's effort, Trembley said, On desire alone, he finished the race."
Tannhauser won the SEC Championship in the 500-yard freestyle last season and was also named the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
