Lady Vol Swimmers Set To Compete At Olympic Trials

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.---- Three current University of Tennessee swimmers, along with one former Lady Vol and two incoming freshmen, will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. The competition begins on Wednesday, August 9, and runs through Wednesday, August 16.
Leading the way for the current Lady Vols is All-American Monica Shannahan, a rising senior. Shannahan, a native of San Diego, Calif., will compete in the breaststroke and butterfly events. She will be joined by fellow senior Pam Hanson, a native of LaCrosse, Wis., at the trials.
Hanson will compete in the backstroke and butterfly. Rounding out the Lady Vol contingent is rising junior Valerie Conte of Bensenville, Ill., who will compete in the backstroke.
Alumnae Emily Plummer (1995-98) will join the current UT swimmers in the backstroke. Plummer, who hails from Concord, Calif., will be swimming for her club team out of Walnut Creek, Calif.
Two future Lady Vols, Amber Fuller and Jenny Hettich, will also be competing in Indianapolis. Fuller, a resident of Yakima, Wash., will swim in the butterfly while Louisville, Ky., native Hettich will compete in the individual medley.
