| Vols & Lady Vols Cheerleaders Tryout Information |
| The cheerleading program consists of two varsity squads.
|
| Submitting a video highlighting your cheerleading skills along with your application is optional. Please note, however, a video tape is not mandatory for cheer tryouts, and failure to submit one will not penalize you in any way. The main purpose of the tryout is to select the best overall representatives of the University of Tennessee. This factor, as well as demonstrated technical skills, aids the coaches in choosing the best all-around members for each team. During the weekend clinic, held at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center on Tennessee's campus, the coaching staff makes several cuts with the assistance of collegiate coaches until all of the final teams are selected. The format of the tryout is that of a clinic where skills progression taught by coaches and former Tennessee cheerleaders are evaluated. Participants are then given ample time and opportunities to practice and demonstrate the skills before cuts are made. If a participant is selected to continue, attendance is mandatory for the remainder of the clinic.

| Dance Team Tryout Information |
| The Dance Team is committed to presenting quality dance performances showcasing a variety of styles, from pom to funk to jazz. The training program includes cardiovascular, strength and dance technique classes.
|
| One purpose of the tryout is to select a group who possess the best mastery of pom, jazz, ballet and skills. A second purpose is to determine the best representatives for the University of Tennessee. The format of the tryout covers three mandatory days of clinic, held at the Health, Physical Education and Recreation building on Tennessee's campus, where skills and routines are taught. The routines will begin with basics and advance into lengthy combinations as the weekend progresses. During the tryouts, a panel of coaches and specialists in the field of jazz and ballet will make cuts along the way until the final team is selected. The coaching staff strongly encourages a basic understanding of ballet and jazz technique. This will include proper body alignment and basic movement vocabulary in ballet and jazz.
