COACH'S COMMENTS: "I'm impressed with Mandy's athletic ability and just how tenacious she is. She is also extremely dedicated and very competitive. We're not going to put a lot of pressure on her, because we want her to develop at her own rate. She hasn't competed for a couple of years, but she has shown signs of catching on really quickly. She is fortunate to have teammates to work with in practice who are great examples or blueprints for what to do."
SCOUTING REPORT: Mandy joined the track and field team at the conclusion of the 1999 volleyball season...She had not competed in track since high school but didn't have much difficulty returning to the runway as a pole vaulter...Will be one of five in that event area this season and has the athletic ability to make great strides...
HIGH SCHOOL: Mandy was awarded four letters in track, three in volleyball and one in basketball...Was a two-time team captain as a harrier and two-time selection as a spiker...On the oval, she finished fifth at state in 1997 in the intermediate hurdles and helped the 4x400m relay to a third-place result...Mandy also had two seasons of experience as a vaulter...As a volleyball player, Bergey earned first-team all-state honors as a senior and was a second-team selection in the 1997 state tournament...Considers her Hillsboro High School team beating Oregon City to advance to the state championships as her greatest thrill in sports...Selected as the Metro League Conference Player of the Year...An honorable mention all-state selection as a junior...Member of the Portland Volleyball Club...She was active in Leadership ASB Senate and Youth Alive groups...Mandy was also a member of both the homecoming and Mayfette courts..
PERSONAL: Mandy is majoring in nutrition...She has two sisters, Cory, 26, and Emily, 21, along with a pair of brothers, Matt, 24, and Adam, 14...Enjoys mountain biking and rafting in her spare time...Amanda Lynn Bergey was born Feb. 4, 1980, in Hillsboro, Ore...Her father, Bruce, played professional football with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Oilers, while her uncle played in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles...Her mother is Carolyn.
