Tennessee Swimmers Conclude Bulldog Invitational

The Volunteers competed in nine events on Sunday with a pair of Vols posting provisional NCAA qualifying times. Justin Hoggatt improved upon a career-best time of 47.93 time clocked on Saturday with a time of 47.60 on Sunday. The time is just .04 off the NCAA automatic qualifying mark. Chris Stewart also posted a NCAA provisional time in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.19. Stewart's season best came last week at the SEC Championship meet when he swam a time of 54.93.
The Volunteers finished second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:10.21 and third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.53. Ben Brink was ninth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:04.78. Jason Baxter finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:40.51. Chris Johnson led a quartet of Vols in the 100 freestyle with a third-place time of 45.95. Nick Lakin was fifth with a time of 46.20 while Hoggatt reached the wall in a sixth-place time of 46.22 and Joel Wallace finished 14th with a time of 47.32. Steve Cromer placed third in the 1650 freestyle with a season-best time of 15:51.26. Johnson was sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.83 while Lakin was seventh with a time of 20.87.
Next up for the Vol divers are the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in Auburn, Ala. The top finishers at that meet will move on to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be held on Mar. 23-25 in Minneapolis, Minn.
