Vols Win Four Events At Kroger Invitational
February 13, 2000 | Men's Track
Maryville's Tim Bell earned a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7-3, the best mark by a Vol this season, in winning the high jump. Camron Howard earned his third NCAA provisional mark this season by winning the long jump with a 25-2 1/2 effort. Senior co-captain Anthony Famiglietti won the 3000M run going away in 8:16.18, more than 2.5 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The Vols were one of 30 collegiate teams and over 80 national and world class post-collegiate athletes that made up the Kroger Invitational Field at Virginia Tech.
"We accomplished a lot of things," head coach Bill Webb said. "We had a lot of lifetime bests and made progress towards what we want to do at the SECs. It was a good meet for us."
Matt Rush ran an identical 60M hurdles time Saturday (7.96) as he did Friday in the preliminaries. Rush finished second in the 60M hurdles finals. Tennessee's 4x400M relay (Shannon Wheatley, Adrian Wheatley, Leonard Scott and Jebreh Harris) overcame some bad fortune to finish second of 18. The Vol 4x400M team dropped the baton on the handoff between Adrian Wheatley and Scott. Scott picked up the baton and Tennessee recovered to finish only 1.32 seconds behind the winning South Carolina team. The 3:13.41 finish is Tennessee's best 4x400 time of the year. Freshman Rocky Danners finished second in the pole vault clearing 17-0, the best Tennessee mark of the season. Tyler Garrett took second in the shot put with a mark of 54-9 1/4. Harris finished the 800M run in third in 1:51.22, an indoor lifetime best for him.
In a side note, former Vol Tim Mack won the Pole Vault Invite title by clearing 18-4 1/2.
Tennessee returns to action on Friday, Feb. 18 at the UT All-Comers Meet, the only home meet of the indoor seasoon, before traveling to the SEC Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-27 in Fayetteville, Ark.
