LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Keith Bogans scored 25 points, including 16 in the first half, and No. 14 Kentucky extended its winning streak at Rupp Arena to 15 games with an 81-68 victory over No. 6 Tennessee on Tuesday night. The Wildcats avenged their last home loss, a 47-46 setback to the Volunteers last season, and took over first place in the Southeastern Conference's East division.
Kentucky (16-5, 6-1) got 17 points from Tayshaun Prince, 14 in the second half, and a 12-point, five-assist performance from point guard Saul Smith. Prince and Smith each had six rebounds.
Vincent Yarbrough scored 17 points and Tony Harris added 16 for Tennessee (18-3, 6-2), while Isiah Victor had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
With the fired-up Wildcats getting an assist from a raucous Rupp Arena crowd, Kentucky ended Tennessee's six-game SEC road winning streak, as well as a two-game winning streak in the series by the Volunteers.
Kentucky has won 12 of 13 games since starting the season 4-4 and dropping temporarily from the national rankings.
Bogans followed a 16-point performance in Kentucky's win over Miami with a career high against the Vols. The freshman shooting guard was a threat from everywhere on the court, going 4-of-8 from 3-point range and finishing three Kentucky fast breaks with layups. He was also 5-of-7 from free throw line, handed out two assists and made two steals, while committing four turnovers.
Though Kentucky led by double digits at several points in the second half, Tennessee kept cutting into the margin, frequently on 3-pointers by Yarbrough and Harris. Tennessee got within 58-54 with 9:46 left, but Kentucky responded and effectively locked the game away on Prince's 3-pointer with 3:59 remaining that made it 74-63.
For the game, the Wildcats outrebounded the Volunteers 40-33. They also shot 10-of-21 from 3-point range, one of the better long-range performances of the season for the SEC's worst 3-point shooting team. Tennessee, the league's top long-range team, was just 10-of-27 from beyond the arc.
An anticipated matchup between Tennessee center C.J. Black and Kentucky center Jamaal Magloire never panned out.
Black was in foul trouble for nearly the whole game, picking up two early fouls in each half before sitting down for long stretches. He finished with only two points.
Magloire was equally ineffective, missing all three of his field goal attempts and grabbing only two rebounds in finishing with two points.
