MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The No. 17 University of Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team remained in fifth place after the conclusion of the second day of competition at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The Lady Vols tallied 301 points after the first two days of competition at the 14-team meet in the University Aquatic Center. The host squad, No. 16 Minnesota, continues to lead the event, collecting 586 points.
For the second day, the Tennessee highlights went to the diving performances. Junior Lizzy Flynt recorded an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 495.60 on the three-meter springboard for first place. It marked the second time she advanced to the finals, as she took fifth place on the one-meter on Friday. Freshman Jaime Sanger, a Minnesota native, finished fifth on the three-meter. Sanger claimed the one-meter title on the first day of competition.
Among the Lady Vol swimmers who posted strong finishes on Saturday was senior Teresa Moodie. She qualified for the A Final after the prelims and went on to take third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:02.93, an NCAA B standard. Junior Pam Hanson also moved onto an A Final, securing seventh place in the 100m backstroke at 1:05.51.
The meet will conclude on Sunday. The prelims are slated to start at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at noon and finals will commence at 3 p.m. The preliminary races and the final in the 1650 freestyle will be conducted in short-course yards, and the finals will be conducted in short-course meters. Most collegiate meets are held in yards, however, the 2000 NCAA Championships will be conducted in meters.
Upon the team's return to Knoxville, the Lady Vols will have a break for Thanksgiving. UT will return to action on Dec. 3-5 when the swimmers head to the University of Indiana Institutional in Bloomington, Ind., and the divers compete at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
