MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Tennessee Lady Vol swimming and diving team closed out the three-day Minnesota Invitational in sixth place on Sunday. Despite not competing in the finals on the last day, Tennessee managed to secure several points with the success of the divers. The squad finished in sixth place overall with 347 points, and meet host Minnesota claimed first place with 847 points.
Throughout the event, the Lady Vol divers took control. Junior Lizzy Flynt secured her second first-place finish of the meet on Sunday, winning the platform competition with a score of 463.75. Her mark was an NCAA Zone qualifying score, and she added 20 points to the UT effort. On Saturday, Flynt took first on the three-meter springboard and she finished fifth on the one-meter. Also collecting points on the platform was sophomore Bethany Minser who took seventh with a score of 291.65 to add 12 points to the Tennessee tally. At the start of the meet, freshman Jaime Sanger, a Minnesota native, notched a first-place performance on the one-meter. She also finished fifth on the three-meter.
Additional meet highlights over the weekend went to senior Teresa Moodie. She finished in third place in both the 50m freestyle and 200m freestyle, clocking NCAA B standard times in both.
Minnesota finished on top of their own event, followed by Wisconsin with 695.5 points and Illinois took third with 632 points.
The Lady Vols will have a break from action for Thanksgiving. UT will then return to the pool on Dec. 3-5 when the swimmers head to the University of Indiana Institutional in Bloomington, Ind., and the divers compete at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga.
