Lady Vol Cross Country To Run At NCAA South Regional
November 11, 1999 | Women's Cross Country
The University of Tennessee women's cross country team will compete at the 1999 NCAA South Regional on Sat., Nov. 13, at 11:00 a.m. CT at Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala.
Tennessee recorded a ninth-place finish in a field of 30 teams at Indian Pines on Oct. 1, at the Auburn Invitational, with senior Angie Pothier crossing the line in ninth-place overall with a 17:12.64 clip. That time was the fastest for any Lady Vol harrier since 1990.
The Lady Vols finished third of 23 at last year's Regional in Birmingham, Ala., and secured an at-large bid for the 1998 NCAA Championships in Lawrence, Kan. Current Orange and White runners Sharon Dickie, Meghan Mantlo, Angie Pothier and Mindy Watkins finished in 12th, 56th, 18th and 27th places, respectively at the qualifying event.
Freshman Amber Ayub (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Christy Baird (Knoxville, Tenn.), and seniors Amy Bartosik (Kingsport, Tenn.), Meghan Mantlo (Nashville, Tenn.), Pothier (Vancouver, Wash.) and Mindy Watkins (Canastota, N.Y.) will hit the course for the Lady Volunteers at this year's Regional.
Sharon Dickie has not competed during the fall cross country season, and will not run at the South Regional due to continuing hip pain. She is currently undergoing testing to determine the cause of the discomfort.
