Lady Vol Cross Country to Run at SEC Championships
October 27, 1999 | Women's Cross Country
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women’s cross country team will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to compete at the 1999 Southeastern Conference Championships, hosted by Vanderbilt University at Vaughn’s Creek at Percy Warner Park, on Sat., Oct. 30, at 10:45 a.m. CT.
Head coach Brenda Webb will field a team consisting of seniors Amy Bartosik (Kingsport, Tenn.), Meghan Mantlo (Nashville, Tenn.), Angie Pothier (Vancouver, Wash.) and Mindy Watkins (Canastota, N.Y.), and freshmen Amber Ayub (Knoxville, Tenn.), Christy Baird (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Rebecca Collins (Loveland, Ohio).
Last year, Tennessee finished in third place at SECs, with then-freshman Sharon Dickie and graduated-senior Maureen Ferris earning All-SEC distinction on their home course at Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville, Tenn. Dickie, Ferris and Angie Pothier would go on to notch All-region accolades the next week in Birmingham, Ala.
Pothier will attempt to regain the form that she exhibited earlier this year for the Lady Vols, when she recorded a time of 17:12.64 at the Auburn Invitational on Oct. 1. That clocking was the best for the Orange and White since 1990.
Following competition in Nashville, the Lady Vols will prepare for NCAA South Regional to be held in Auburn, Ala., on Sat., Nov. 13.
