Knecht Selected to Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List
January 31, 2024 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dalton Knecht of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is among the selections for the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List, as announced Tuesday night on ESPN2.
The fifth-year guard is one of three SEC players who made the cut, alongside Auburn's Johni Broome and Kentucky's Antonio Reeves. The only other leagues with at least three selections are the ACC (four), Big 12 and BIG EAST.
Broome and Dayton's DaRon Holmes II are the lone two newcomers to the list, while Knecht and the 17 others were all part of the Midseason Top 25 Watch List announced Jan. 20.
In his first season at Tennessee, Knecht is averaging 20.1 points per game, a figure that ranks first in the SEC and No. 26 nationally. The Thornton, Colo., native is shooting 48.8 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent beyond the arc and 78.1 percent at the line, while adding 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest.
A 6-foot-6, 213-pounder, Knecht has scored 25-plus points seven times this season—including in each of the past five games—to tie for the seventh-most such performances in the country. His five 30-point games are tied for the second-most nationally, while his three 35-point outings match New Orleans' Jordan Johnson for the top mark at the Division I level.
Knecht and fifth-ranked Tennessee (15-5, 5-2 SEC) continue play Saturday at 8:30 p.m. with a top-10 showdown against No. 10/8 Kentucky, live on ESPN from Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.
