January 10, 2024 | Men's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dalton Knecht of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is among the selections for the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List, as announced Wednesday night on ESPN2.
The fifth-year guard is one of eight players debuting on the list, alongside David Jones (Memphis), Jaedon LeDee (San Diego State), Caleb Love (Arizona), Antonio Reeves (Kentucky), Mark Sears (Alabama), Reed Sheppard (Kentucky) and K.J. Simpson (Colorado).
Knecht, Reeves, Sears, Sheppard and Wade Taylor IV (Texas A&M) are the five SEC players who made the cut. The league is tied with the Big 12 for the most selections of any conference.
A 6-foot-6, 213-pounder, Knecht is averaging 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in 2023-24. He has notched 15-plus on eight occasions and over 20 thrice, including posting a 37-point outing Nov. 29, 2023, at No. 17/16 North Carolina, tying the record for a visitor at the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Thornton, Colo., native was the SEC Player of the Week on Nov. 13, 2023, after his first week of action in a Volunteer uniform. He is shooting 45.3 percent from the floor, 36.1 percent beyond the arc and 80.4 percent at the line.
Knecht and fifth-ranked Tennessee (11-3, 1-0 SEC) resume competition Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET against Mississippi State at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss., live on SEC Network.
