Knecht Named SEC Player of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dalton Knecht of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team is the first SEC Player of the Week in 2023-24, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
A transfer from Northern Colorado, Knecht claimed the award after his first week of action in a Tennessee uniform.
Knecht averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game across a pair of Tennessee victories. His play helped lead the Volunteers to an 80-42 win over Tennessee Tech and an 80-70 road triumph at Wisconsin without the team trailing for even a second in either contest.
The fifth-year guard from Thornton, Colo., shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the stripe on the week.
Knecht tallied 17 points, three rebounds and one assist versus the Golden Eagles, then followed that performance with 24 points, five rebounds and two assists against the Badgers. He paced all scorers in both affairs.
A 6-foot-6, 213-pounder, Knecht is the 11th different Volunteer to earn at least one SEC Player of the Week distinction in Rick Barnes' nine-year tenure, notching the 16th total honor. He is the first to receive the distinction since Zakai Zeigler on Jan. 30, 2023.
Knecht and No. 7/8 Tennessee (2-0) resume play Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Wofford at home at Food City Center, live on SEC Network+.
