KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee struggled to get the bats going and was unable to slow down James Madison in a 21-2 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

After jumping out to an early lead in yesterday's game against the Dukes, the Vols found themselves in an early hole on Wednesday, giving up five runs in the first two innings.

JMU scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when Fox Semones singled through the left side with runners on second and third. A pair of two-out RBI singles in the second plated three more runs for James Madison and chased UT starter Andrew Schultz from the game.

The Dukes continued to add to their lead with a run in the fourth before blowing the game wide open with five more runs in the sixth, punctuated by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Adam Sisk.

Jay Charleston was one of the few players in the UT lineup to find success against JMU starter Kevin Kelly, going 2-for-3 with a pair of infield singles. The sophomore from Longwood, Fla., also made an impressive diving catch in left field in the fifth inning.

Kelly kept Tennessee's hitters off balance for most of the afternoon, giving up two runs on just four hits in 6.2 innings of work while striking out five.

The trio of Sisk, Semones and Mike Sciorra did the majority of the damage for the Dukes, combining for seven hits, eight runs scored and 11 RBI.

Pete Derkay singled with the bases loaded in the seventh to drive in the only two runs of the game for the Big Orange and extended his on-base streak to 15 straight games in doing so.

Pete Derkay and Benito Santiago both reached base safely in Wednesday's game to extend their lengthy on-base streaks. Derkay has now reached base in all 14 games this season and 15 straight dating back to last year, while Santiago has reached in 13 consecutive games.

Next Up
Tennessee will hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to Cincinnati this weekend to take on the Bearcats. The three-game series will begin on Friday at 4 p.m. ET. Saturday and Sunday's games are both slated to start at 1 p.m. ET.
