Wolf Moves Up TE Receiving List
- On UT's third possession, Ethan Wolf caught a seven-yard pass from Jarrett Guarantano, giving him 958 career receiving yards and moving him past Luke Stocker (956 yards from 2007-10) for the third-most all-time among Tennessee tight ends.
- Only Reggie Harper (1,141 yards from 1977-80) and Mychal Rivera (1,018 from 2010-12) have more receiving yards among Tennessee tight ends.
Vol Captains/Coin Toss
- The Tennessee team captains for Saturday's game against LSU are redshirt senior defensive lineman Kendal Vickers, senior offensive lineman Jashon Robertson and senior tight end Ethan Wolf.
- Tennessee won coin toss and chose to defer to receive in the second half. LSU chose to receive and defend the north goal.
- UT is 7-5 on coin tosses this season (6-5 on pregame coin tosses and 1-0 in overtime).
- In 2016, Tennessee won six out of 15 coin tosses, including six out of 13 pregame. The Vols did not win either of their two coin tosses in overtime. UT was 3-3 in 2016 when winning the pregame coin toss.
Tennessee-LSU Notes
- Tennessee is now 20-10-3 all-time against LSU with an 11-4-1 record against the Tigers in Knoxville.
- Entering Saturday, the teams last played on Oct. 15, 2011, in Knoxville. LSU won that game 38-7.
- The Tigers have won the last five games of the series (2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2017). UT's last win over LSU was on Sept. 26, 2005 when the Vols took a 30-27 overtime win in Baton Rouge.
Offensive Notes
- FIRST HALF STATS: Tennessee posted 181 first-half yards of offense. Quarterback Jarrett Guarantano completed 10 of 12 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown. John Kelly rushed 17 times for 30 yards and had three catches for 31 yards. Marquez Callaway had two receptions for 72 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown.
- With 2:04 left in the first quarter, Tennessee running back John Kelly ran the ball on 4th-and-1 and was ruled down at the UT 49 for no gain. After a review, Kelly was ruled to have crossed the plane for the first down. After one failed fourth-down try in the third quarter and another failed fourth-down attempt in the fourth, UT is now 3-for-9 on fourth downs this season.
- Tennessee out-gained LSU 58 yards to 17 yards in the first quarter.
- UT covered 53 yards over 14 plays on its third possession and got on the scoreboard with an Aaron Medley 45-yard field goal.
- In the second quarter, John Kelly completed a 10-yard pass to walk-on receiver Malik Elion for a 10-yard gain on a trick play. Elion is a member of the Tennessee track and field team and was a 2017 Second Team All-American in the 4x400 relay.
- With 1:23 left in the first half, Jarrett Guarantano connected with Marquez Callaway for a 46-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline. LSU was called for defensive pass interference on the play and the penalty was declined. The touchdown completed a four-play,75-yard drive and brought UT to within 17-10 after an Aaron Medley extra point.
- With 16 seconds left in the third quarter, Guarantano heaved a pass down the right sideline to Jeff George for a 60-yard gain. It was Guarantano's longest pass of his career and it was the second-longest UT offensive play of the season. George caught a 48-yard pass from Guarantano against Kentucky and has two of Tennessee's five longest offensive plays of the season.
- George's 60 receiving yards also set a new UT career best for the redshirt senior.
Defensive Notes
- FIRST HALF STATS: The UT defense limited LSU to 17 yards in the first quarter (second-fewest by the Tigers this season). The Vols held LSU to 141 yards (50 passing, 91 rushing) in the first half.
- Tennessee forced an LSU 3-and-out on the Tigers' opening drive. LSU managed just seven yards on three plays. Nigel Warrior came up with a four-yard TFL on the drive.
- With 13:13 left in the second quarter, Jonathan Kongbo and Elliott Berry brought LSU quarterback Danny Etling down with a four-yard sack.
- The Vols' defense forced seven 3-and-outs for the game
Special Teams Highlights
- With 13:59 remaining in the second quarter, senior kicker Aaron Medley made a 45-yard field goal from the left hash mark to tie the game at 3-3.
- Redshirt senior punter Trevor Daniel finished the game with four punts for 204 yards and a 51.0 average. He also had two punts of 50 or more yards.
Upon Further Review
- With 2:04 left in the first quarter, Tennessee running back John Kelly ran the ball on 4th-and-1 and was ruled down at the UT 49 for no gain. After a review, Kelly was ruled to have crossed the plane for the first down. REVERSED.
