Tennessee Advances Two Boats To C Finals At NCAAs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Two of the Lady Vols' three boats posted top-three finishes in the semifinals on Saturday to advance to the C Finals (places 13-18) of the NCAA Championships on Sunday in Sarasota, Fla.Â
UT's 1V8 was third in its semifinal, finishing less than half a second behind second-place Duke with a time of 6:29.666. SMU finished first (6:27.600), Gonzaga was fourth (6:41.216), and Rhode Island took fifth (6:47.160). The crew will race in the C Final against Washington State, SMU, Wisconsin, Duke and Navy on Sunday at 9:12 a.m. ET.
In the 2V8, Tennessee earned a second-place finish, making it down the course in 6:38.451. Duke won the race with a time of 6:35.019. Navy finished third at 6:43.125, Northeastern was fourth 06:45.695, and Gonzaga was fifth 7:00.949. The boat will be back in action at 8:48 a.m. ET Sunday against Navy, Alabama, Duke, Princeton and Washington State.
In UT's final race of the day, the 1V4 battled down to the wire with Gonzaga but couldn't hold them off, finishing fourth with a time of 7:28.369. SMU, Alabama and Gonzaga made up the top three with times of 7:19.283, 7:20.709 and 7:27.905, respectively. Northeastern took fifth with a time of 7:52.103. UT's 1V4 will race in the D Final at 8:12 a.m. ET against Northeastern, Rhode Island and Marist.Â
