Food City Becomes “Official Supermarket of the Tennessee Volunteers”
September 06, 2019 | General
The University of Tennessee and the Vol Network are proud to announce that longtime partner Food City has become the "official supermarket" of the Vols and Lady Vols. Food City has been a staunch supporter of the Big Orange for more than 22 years, and this latest commitment further entrenches the brand with Tennessee and its fans.
"Tennessee athletics has the most loyal fans on the planet, and the same could be said for our incredible base of sponsors, many of whom have been with us over the long haul," UT Director of Athletics Phillip Fulmer said. "Food City is a shining example of a true partner, and I can't think of a better fit than to recognize them as the Vols' official supermarket. We value the association with such a great grocery brand with terrific employees who bleed orange."
"Food City is proud to continue our partnership with the Big Orange," Food City President/CEO Steven C. Smith said. "The University of Tennessee has an excellent athletic program and ranks among the top in the nation. Likewise, Food City strives for excellence as we strive to 'run the best store in town' in every community we serve. We are thrilled to be the official supermarket of the Vols."
In celebration of becoming the official supermarket of Tennessee Athletics, Food City is now the official presenter of the "Volunteer of the Game," honoring a veteran at each Tennessee home football game by presenting them with a $250 Food City gift card, a $100 certificate for a purchase of Certified Angus Beef and a Tennessee football helmet. Food City is also launching a series of four classic Vols football prints in its stores this fall. Customers who purchase qualifying Coca-Cola products will receive a free poster. Food City rewards Tennessee fans by awarding a "Tailgater of the Game" at each home football game at Neyland Stadium. The company is an associate partner with UT's nationally-recognized "Good Sports" recycling program and a longtime partner in UT's annual "Beef Sweepstakes" and "Beef Day" promotion.
Headquartered in Abingdon, Virginia, K-VA-T Food Stores (Food City's parent company) operates 132 retail outlets throughout southeast Kentucky, southwest Virginia, east Tennessee, Chattanooga and north Georgia.
