INDIANAPOLIS -- Tennessee concluded the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in 20th place at IU Natatorium.
A pair of Vols recorded career bests in the 1650-yard freestyle and the team put together their fastest 400 freestyle relay of the year but finished out of scoring on the final day.
Tennessee scored 55 team points to finish in 20th, the team's fifth consecutive year in the top 20. Texas won with 542 points, nearly 200 points more than second-place California (349).
On Saturday, sophomore Kyle DeCoursey narrowly missed earning a final swim in the 100 freestyle. He got the alternate spot after placing 17th in preliminaries in 42.61.
DeCoursey, Ryan Coetzee, Joey Reilman and Austin Hirstein swam a season-best 2:52.41 in the 400 freestyle relay but fell short of the finals in 22nd place.
Four Vols swam together in one heat of the 1650 freestyle. Freshman Marc Hinawi swam the third-fastest time in program history (14:54.63) to take 21st overall. Junior Sam McHugh finished right behind him in a career-best 14:55.79. Freshman Taylor Abbott was 27th (15:00.75) and junior David Heron was 29th (15:03.47).
Though he did not compete on the final day, junior diverLiam Stoneput together another standout NCAA meet on springboard, placing fourth in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions to earn first-team All-American honors. He contributed 30 of the team's 55 team points.
