WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Tennessee volleyball team is competing in the George Washington Invitational in the final weekend before the start of SEC play.
The Vols (7-2) play three opponents this weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center, starting Friday against Northern Illinois (5-4) at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Tennessee takes on James Madison (7-3) at 10:30 a.m. and host George Washington (6-4) at 7 p.m.

D.C. WEEKEND
- This weekend at the George Washington Invitational marks the final tournament before SEC competition begins.
- The Vols are playing in the GW Invitational for a second time. They went 3-0 in the event back in 1993.
- Quick Look Inside the Series: Tennessee leads Northern Illinois 1-0, James Madison 2-1 and George Washington 5-2.
- While this is the last non-conference tournament before SEC play, the Vols will play at Troy in a final non-conference match on Oct. 5.
- Freshman Alyssa Andreno, a native of Stafford, Virginia, will be playing close to home this weekend. Stafford is about 45 miles away from the Smith Center.
BACK IN KALAMAZOO
- Last weekend, the Vols went 2-1 at the Holiday Inn West Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich. Tennessee defeated Western Michigan and Milwaukee in four sets before losing to Xavier 3-1.
- Senior Bri Holmes, who had 21 kills and nine digs against Western Michigan, was named to the all-tournament team. She averaged 3.88 kills/set and hit .344.
- Sophomore Erica Treiber was also named to the all-tournament team, averaging 2.30 kills/set while hitting .512.
- Senior Bridgette Villano recorded her 1,000th career dig, becoming the 14th Vol to hit that milestone. She now has 1,029 digs.
SEC STANDINGS
- Through the first three weeks of the season, the Vols rank in the top five in the SEC in every statistical team average.
- The Vols are second in assists per set (12.86). Freshman Sedona Hansen is second in the SEC individual assists ranking (11.11).
- Tennessee is also second in aces per set (1.66). Junior Kelsey Bawcombe leads the team with 14.
- The Vols have moved up to second in opponent hitting percentage (.161). They have held eight of nine opponents below .250.
- Sophomore Erica Treiber is fourth in the conference in hitting percentage (.373).
