TOWSON, Md. -- The Tennessee volleyball program opens its 2015 season this weekend with four matches at the Towson Invitational.
The Vols have a pair of matches Friday, taking on Delaware State at 12:15 p.m. and host Towson at 7 p.m. On Saturday, they face Coppin State at 10 a.m. and Saint Francis (Pa.) at 2:30 p.m.
It is the first time Tennessee has faced any of these opponents in program history.
This weekend starts Rob Patrick's 19th year as head coach of the UT volleyball program. He has led the team to nine NCAA appearances and SEC titles in two seasons.
Tennessee has 17 players on its roster this season, 10 returners and seven newcomers. Of the 10 players back this year, five had significant starting time last year. Sophomore Kendra Turner led the team in kills last year (2.67/set) and senior Lexi Dempsey has started the last two years at setter.
Two more players -- senior Megan Hatcher and junior Bridgette Villano -- split significant playing time in defensive roles.
