Senior Ryan Helms finished 20th on the 3-meter springboard in senior international debut Friday at the Canada Cup in Montreal.
Helms, the reigning SEC Diver of the Year, missed on his fourth dive and compiled his six-dive list with a score of 357.70 in the preliminary round. Ethan Warren of Australia had the highest score of 467.40.
"Ryan did a great job through three rounds and in fact in the preliminaries he was sitting in sixth and then missed his next dive which kind of put him out of the mix," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "He missed making the semifinals but did a very commendable job diving in his first ever senior international meet. I was very proud of him."
Helms has stayed in the Tennessee headlines since finishing his collegiate diving career in March with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Earlier this week, he was awarded with an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He was also named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving.
He will dive in July's U.S. Olympic Trials, as will former Vol and teammate Michael Wright.
