BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After winning the Penn Relays Championship of America Friday in the sprint medley relay, Tennessee's victorious lineup collectively has been named SEC Outdoor Track & Field Women's Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Brittany Jones, junior Martinique Octave and seniors Ellen Wortham and Chanelle Price comprised UT's winning quartet, which produced a time of 3:43.79 to snap a five-year winning streak at the meet by LSU. That readout ranks as the third-fastest ever run by the Big Orange women, who own the Penn Relays record at 3:41.78.
It marked Tennessee's third win in that event at the meet and first since 2006. It also was the 20th overall Penn Relays baton-event crown by the Lady Vol program.
For Price, it was her sixth Penn Relays victory, tying her with Joetta Clark and Phoebe Wright for second all-time at Tennessee, just one behind Cathy Rattray's school-record seven wins. Wortham picked up her second winner's watch, while Jones and Octave received their first.
The Lady Vols are off this weekend, but they'll head to Baton Rouge, La., next week for the SEC Outdoor Championships, May 10-13.
