KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - All 11 Tennessee student-athletes who made the trip to Des Moines, Iowa, for last week's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are the recipients of postseason recognition, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday.
Seven members of the UT travel party were named first-team All-Americans. The Big Orange also had two second-team selections and four who received honorable mention kudos.
Individuals collecting first-team esteem were junior Annie Alexander, who was third at the NCAA meet in the women's shot put (school record 57-11 1/4) and discus throw (188-9); redshirt freshman Dentarius Locke, who was eighth in the men's 200 meters (20.91w); and junior Chanelle Price, who placed third in the women's 800 meters (2:03.02). The Lady Vol 4x400m relay unit of junior Ellen Wortham, freshman Kianna Ruff and sophomores Martinique Octave and Nijgia Snapp also made the top team after finishing seventh in a season-best 3:32.15.
Drawing second team notice were Locke in the men's 100m (13th, 10.39), Wortham in the women's 400m hurdles (9th, 56.43) and junior Brittany Sheffey in women's 1500m (12th, 4:22.50).
Honorable mention accolades were doled out to UT's 20th-place 4x100m relay quartet (44.78). That foursome included Octave, junior Ashley Harris, sophomore Kia Jackson and junior Brittany Jones.
