GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Using a career-best performance on the 1-meter board, junior diver Gabrielle Trudeau finished seventh in the event in the finals on Saturday evening at the 2011 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Montreal, Canada, native notched a score of 304.90 to better her previous-best tally of 304.28 that she set this season against Georgia on Jan. 22. Trudeau qualified for the finals by grabbing fifth in the prelims with a score of 286.60.
"I'm very pleased with Gabrielle's performance today," said UT Head Diving Coach Dave Parrington. "She did a great job in the prelims to make the finals and bounced back after a little bit of a disappointing day yesterday."
On the season, Trudeau won on the 1-meter board the last three dual-meets and at the Tennessee Invitational.
Sophomore Skye Sanders and senior Jill Pierce also competed for the Big Orange on day two of the championships.
Sanders finished the event with a score of 221.80 to claim 22nd, while Pierce was one spot behind in 23rd with a tally of 220.75.
"Jill and Skye did some good stuff today, which should give them momentum going into tomorrow," Parrington said. "It was great to see a Lady Vol in the finals and we will come at them again tomorrow."
Taryn Zach of South Carolina, who registered the highest score in the prelims, won the event with a score of 336.55.
The dives will wrap up their portion of the SEC Championships when they take to the towers tomorrow morning. The prelims for the platform competition will begin at 11 a.m. with the finals taking place at 2:30 p.m.
