Divers Finish Strong on Final Day of Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Gabrielle Trudeau concluded the Tennessee Diving Invitational on high note by placing fifth in the platform event on Wednesday morning to guide the Lady Vol divers at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The Montreal, Canada, finished the event with a score of 229.75 on the third and final day of competition. After earning honorable mention All-America honors on the tower at the NCAA Championships in 2009, Wednesday marked the first time she competed on the platform this season.
"Although Gaby was a little bit rusty, she was still able to finish fifth in the standings, which really bodes well," Tennessee head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "She really wasn't that far out of being in contention to win the event and that is very pleasing. She was aggressive, made some little mistakes, but that is a result of not competing in a meet up there for quite some time."
Also competing on tower on day three was sophomore Skye Sanders and senior Jill Pierce. Sanders grabbed 12th on the platform with a score of 217.15 and Pierce's tally of 193.60 was good for 21st.
"Skye really had a fantastic day today," Parrington said. "She just missed getting a qualifying score for zones. She really struggled with some confidence issues up on 10-meter, so for her to come out and be aggressive, getting after her dives was a fantastic achievement."
Alabama senior Monica Dodson captured the event with a score of 263.60.
The Tennessee women's divers will have a short break before resuming competition, as they will be joined by the rest of the Lady Vol swimming and diving team when the squad hosts No. 9 Virginia at the AJIAC in a dual meet on Saturday.
