Friday Tabbed to SEC Community Service Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - As the University of Tennessee volleyball team wraps up its final preparations for the NCAA Tournament, it will sneak in one final award in a week filled with honors of all sorts, as junior Amanda Friday has been named the Lady Vol representative on the 2010 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team.
A native of Springfield,Va., Friday has worked with Habitat for Humanity, participated in UT's annual Holiday Dinner for the Homeless, where she hosted guest from a local shelter on campus for a meal and gifts, and helped with Teams for Toys where they purchase, wrap and give Christmas gifts to underprivileged local children.
In addition, Friday has also assisted at Knox Kicks Soccer Clinic, helped lead a free volleyball clinic for youth club team and participated in the UT Donor Thank-a-Thon, calling donors to offer thanks for their contributions to the Lady Vol scholarship fund.
On the court, the 5-7 defensive specialist has played in 26 matches for the Big Orange, including 11 starts at the libero position. She is currently averaging 2.07 digs per set with a total of 122 scoops on the year. Friday has also accumulated 19 assists and five service aces.
Fowler and the 19th-ranked Lady Vols will enter the 2010 NCAA Tournament this week with the highest national seed in school history at No. 11. The Big Orange will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the first and second rounds of the tournament which will be held at University Gymnasium, Dec. 3-4.
Tennessee (24-6) will open the tournament against Alabama A&M (16-10) on Friday before Miami (Fla.) (23-8) squares off against Indiana (21-11). The winner of both contests will advance to a second-round showdown on Saturday night for the right to move on to the NCAA Regional in Dayton, Ohio, Dec. 10-11.
