KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Three athletes with ties to the Tennessee women's swimming and diving team were recently named to the USA Swimming National Team after successful performances this summer.
Sophomore Jenny Connolly, former Lady Vol Christine Magnuson and volunteer coach Davis Tarwater recorded times in the top-six in the country this summer to be named to the squad.
Connolly, a native of West Lafayette, Ind., was selected to the national team in the 100m backstroke. She won the consolation finals heat in the 100m back at the ConocoPhillips USA National Championships in July, and her time of 1:00.69 tied her for the third fastest time in the event at the meet.
Magnuson, who wrapped up her career in Orange and White as the 2008 NCAA Champion in the 100y fly, was selected to the team in the 100m fly, 100m free and 50m free. She won her second consecutive 100m fly national title at the ConcoPhillips USA National Championships and competed in four events FINA World Championships in Rome, Itlay in late July.
Tarwater was named to the team in the 100m fly, 200m fly and 200m free. He competed at the World Championships as a member of the 4 x 200m free relay that qualified first for the finals in a prelim heat.
As members of the national team, Connolly, Magnuson and Tarwater will have the opportunity to represent the U.S. in international competitions and attend national team events as the team readies itself for the London Olympics in 2012.
