BERLIN, Germany -- Former University of Tennessee standout and NCAA champion Aries Merritt was in action at the IAAF World Track & Field Championships on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately for Merritt and the United States, it will be his only appearance at Olympic Stadium this week.
Competing in the qualifying round of the 110-meter hurdles, Merritt finished fourth in heat three in 13.70 seconds and was unable to advance to the semifinals.
His American teammates, two-time world and Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell and Beijing silver medalist and `07 world bronze medalist David Payne, however, were able to move on. Trammell finished second in heat five in 13.51, while Payne was third in heat six with a 13.54 readout.
