Though most of the Tennessee track and field team will take the weekend off, nine athletes are entered to compete in the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State University and in the JRF Multi-Event Challenge at Clemson University on Friday and Saturday.
"We're about a month from the SEC Indoor Championships, and this weekend is really about that meet more than anything," Tennessee head coach Bill Webb said. "We're taking some athletes to ETSU to see if they're ready to compete at the conference level, and our heptathletes are going to Clemson to see where they are as the conference meet approaches."
Seven Vols will make the trip to Johnson City, Tenn. The group consists of Deaundra Dailey and Varick Tucker in the sprints, Justin Hansen in the 800m, Jonathan Fluellen in the long jump, and Chris Kane, Steve Tobin and Chris Rapp in the distance events.
Multi-event competitors Michael Ayers and Matthew Best will make the trip to Clemson, S.C., for their first heptathlon of the season.
Both meets begin Friday and continue through the day on Saturday.
