Seven Lady Vols named All-Mideast Region

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its 2008 USTFCCCA Women???s Outdoor Track & Field All-Region selections Tuesday, and the University of Tennessee had seven female honorees on the All-Mideast Region Team.
The Lady Vols, who finished second at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., over the weekend, got all-region performances from freshman Annie Alexander (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) in the discus throw (1st) and shot put (3rd); junior Sarah Bowman (Warrenton, Va.) in the 1500m (2nd); sophomore Lynne Layne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) in the 100m (2nd), 200m (3rd) and 4x100m relay (2nd); senior LaTonya Loche (Bastrop, La.) in the 400m (8th) and 4x100m relay (2nd); freshman Jeneba Tarmoh (San Jose, Calif.) in the 100m (3rd), 200m (2nd) and 4x100m relay (2nd); senior Cleo Tyson (Huntsville, Texas) in the 4x100m relay (2nd) and sophomore Phoebe Wright (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) in the 800m (4th).
All seven will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, next Monday, as they prepare to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium, June 11-14.
