Hinkey Tabbed Lady Vol Athlete of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? For the second consecutive week, a member of the University of Tennessee volleyball team has been named Lady Vol Athlete of the Week, as sophomore middle blocker Leah Hinkey earned the honor following her MVP performance at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic this past weekend.
The Glenwood Springs, Colo., native led the Big Orange to its fourth straight Comcast Lady Vol Classic title with sweeps over all three of its opponents in the tournament. Hinkey hit at an amazing .509 clip for the weekend with 32 kills and just five errors in 53 swings. She also led the team in points (44.0), finished second in both kills (32) and aces (7) and was third on the squad in total attacks (53) and blocks (9).
In the team???s first match of the weekend, Hinkey set a new career high in service aces with five against Appalachian State. Her previous best was two, which she accomplished against both Auburn and Florida last season. She also set a personal best in hitting percentage with an amazing .619 mark (14-1-21) in UT???s victory over Belmont, besting her previous high of .526 (10-0-19) set at Ole Miss on Sept. 22, 2006. For the season, Hinkey leads UT with a .405 hitting percentage and is second with 45 kills, 22 blocks and seven aces.
The Orange and White will be back in action this Friday when it travels to Champaign, Ill., for the State Farm Illini Classic. UT will open the competition at 4:30 p.m. CT against Creighton. Depending on the outcome of that match, the Lady Vols take on either Marquette or Illinois at either Noon or 3 p.m. CT the following day.
