Magnuson Continues Efforts for U.S. National Team

CHIBA, Japan ??? Current Lady Vol swimmer Christine Magnuson continued her solid effort in the pool on Wednesday for the U.S. National Team at the Japan International Grand Prix in Chiba, Japan, by registering her first-ever sub-two minute split (1:59.20) during the 800m freestyle relay and by swimming a 55.19 in the 100m freestyle, the fifth fastest time by an American and 26th-best in the world this year.
Her 800m free relay foursome, comprised of Rachel Komisarz, Allison Schmidt, Ashley Chandler and Magnuson, completed the finals in fourth position at 8:00.32, just behind victorious Australia (7:57.03), Great Britain (7:58.64), and China (7:59.64).?? During her personal-best anchor leg, Magnuson was ahead of Chinese swimmer Jiaying Pang at the 100m mark before just being out-touched at the wall.?? Of the top four teams, Magnuson???s anchor leg split of 1:59.20 proved the second fastest over the final 200m.?? The mark was also the fifth fastest 200m split of the entire event.
In the 100m free, Magnuson qualified sixth for the finals in 55.63 before improving her time to 55.19 in completing the course in sixth during the event finals.
Magnuson, a native of Tinley Park, Ill., will continue her participation in the event on Thursday in the 100y butterfly.
