ATHENS, Ga. - Several Lady Vols competed at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga., to improve on personal-best times and attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet to be held in Minneapolis, Minn., March 8-10. Thirteen events were contested today at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the University of Georgia campus.
"We had a number of people with best times," Lady Vol Head Swimming Coach Matt Kredich said. "We had a lot of races where people were faster than they were at SEC's. All in all, it was a good day of racing."
Juniors Laura Fehrman, Vicky Linnell and Danyelle Vincent, along with sophomores Maria Jugan, Betsy Lange, Sam Maccherola, Staley McCartney, Brittany Nauta and Ashley Quinn competed today. Freshmen Bryttany Curran, Jamie Saffer and Laura Tomes made their first trip to Athens for the meet.
Maccherola, who earned NCAA provisional cuts in the 200y, 500y and 1650y free, swam in the 500y free prelims (4:57.00) and 200y free prelims (1:52.25) this morning.

Vincent was the second UT entrant in the 100y backstroke alongside Jugan, and was fourth in the finals session with a time of 56.45.
Saffer competed in several events including the 100y butterfly, where she clocked a new personal top time of 56.07, taking .78 seconds off her previous best. The freshman earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:03.06 in the 100y breast, the fastest time of her career. She also swam in the 200y IM prelims and recorded a time of 2:07.30.
