After improving to a fourth-place finish at the 2004 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, Head Coach Dan Colella's swim squad found out that a total of four swimmers and one relay squad have been invited to the 2004 NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, over March 18-20.
Freshman Megan Tomes (Cincinnati, Ohio) will open up the meet for Tennessee in the 200m IM, while senior Taryn Ternent (Edenvale, South Africa) made it into the 50m freestyle ranks. In the seventh event of the championship, Tennessee's school-recording holding 200m medley relay quartet will do battle with the likes of Texas, Georgia and Auburn, while the standard-breaking 400m medley relay will also compete at the meet. Sophomore Jacque Fessel (Cincinnati, Ohio) makes her debut in the 100m butterfly, while Tomes also qualified for the 200m freestyle.
Fessel returns for the 100m breaststroke, before Tomes enters the fray in the 100m backstroke. Fessel rounds out her individual entries in the 200m backstroke, while freshman Tiffany Clay (Mason, Ohio) jumped into the 200m breaststroke event.
Next up for the Lady Vols, Diving Coach Dave Parrington's diving squad returns to the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships over March 12-14.
