Dusty Miller has been named the SEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his championship performance Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Miller, a sophomore and Knoxville West alum, led the Volunteers to their second team win of the season by taking first in the 7.8K race on the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course. Miller topped the 63-man field with a 24:38.40 time, joining junior Zach Sabatino as the second Volunteer individual champion after three meets logged in 2004. The win stands as the first in Miller's collegiate career.
Tennessee bested the six-team field at the Virginia Tech Invitational after summing 21 points compared to runner-up Radford's 74. Tennessee placed its scoring five runners in the top 10 overall. The Volunteers also won the season opener, a five-mile test at the Old Timers Classic in Bowling Green, Ky. In the second meet of the season, the Volunteers finished second at the Tennessee Invitational, a mere two points behind the meet champion.
Tennessee returns to action Saturday the Pre-NCAA Meet on the national championship course in Terre Haute, Ind. The level of competition increases as the Vols line up for the 8K race on LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
