Lady Vol Divers Advanced To Finals At U.S. Nationals

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Current Lady Vol diver Jaime Sanger and former Tennessee divers Kathy Pesek and Tracy Bonner joined the elite crew to advance to the finals in three-meter synchronized diving at the U.S. National Indoor Championships on Friday. Sanger paired up with a former Minnesota club teammate to place sixth, while Pesek and Bonner took second.
Five-time national synchronized 3-meter champions Pesek and Bonner (Houston, Texas) missed a sixth synchro title by four points, succumbing to Georgia's Lauryn McCalley and Lane Bassham (Moultrie, Ga.). The Tennessee duo recorded a score of 282.96. Sanger, the Plymouth, Minn., native and partner Tracy LaVoi (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) placed sixth with a score of 226.92.
Bonner and Pesek also competed in the three-meter finals. Bonner finished fourth with a score of 479.19 to retain her spot on the National Team, and Pesek was seventh with a tally of 446.07. The title went to local Minnesota diver Sara Reiling (Roseville, Minn.). Current NCAA 3-meter champion Ashley Culpepper (Austin, Texas) finished in second, and 1996 Olympian Jenny Keim (Miami, Fla.) ended up in third.
The final day of competition at the U.S. National Indoor Diving Championships will feature the individual platform finals, and the men's synchronized platform final. Pesek and current Lady Vol Lizzy Flynt will be featured in the event. Flynt took second on the tower at this year's NCAA Championships.
