PARIS – For the second time in her career, Tennessee's Mona McSharry (Ireland) earned a spot in the 100 breast finals during day two of Olympic competition.
After sitting in third following prelims, the three-time NCAA silver medalist broke her Irish national record in the event by throwing down a 1:05.51 effort to punch her ticket to the finals and secure the second-best time of the semifinals. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, McSharry became just the second Irish swimmer ever to compete in a final, going on to finish eighth overall. The 100 breast final will take place Monday at 3:25 p.m. ET.
In the 200 free, Julia Mrozinski (Germany) narrowly missed moving on to the semifinals during her first appearance at the Summer Games. The Tennessee senior clocked a 1:59.87 to place 17th overall in the week. She's expected to compete on the German 4x200 free relay later in the week.
Three Lady Vols will take the pool Monday morning during prelims, as Ella Jansen (Canada) and Ellen Walshe (Ireland) race in the 400 IM, and three-time Olympian Kira Toussaint (Netherlands) will compete in the 100 back.
