Vols Wrap Up Stanford Invite, Florida Relays

STANFORD, Calif. — The Tennessee throwers recorded a trio of third-place finishes Saturday to end the Stanford Invitational.

Jordan West broke his own UT freshman record in the shot put, placing third in the invitational competition with a mark of 18.98 meters (62-3.25). Joseph Maxwell was sixth (18.44m; 60-6).

Fellow freshman Georgios Korakidis took third in the invitational hammer throw with a distance of 65.61m (215-3). Seth Whitener was eighth in 62.31m (204-5).

On the women's side, junior Stamatia Scarvelis was third in the invitational discus with a mark of 52.21m (171-03), followed by Tamia Crockett in 10th (45.53m; 149-4).

PEPSI FLORIDA RELAYS: The Vols ran four relays Saturday to wrap up the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville.

The UT women fielded its first 4x100m relay team of the outdoor season, running in 43.96 seconds. Maia McCoy, Lenysse Dyer, Shania Collins and Felecia Majors ran fifth in 43.96 seconds.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Dyer, Majors, Collins and Brooklynn Broadwater cut five seconds off their time from a week ago, running fifth in 3:34.13.

The Vols ran a season-best in the men's 4x100m relay with the team of Kwantreyl McConico, Mustaqeem Williams, Darryl Harris and Nathan Strother ran 39.98.

UP NEXT: The track and field squad is off from competition next weekend before hosting the Tennessee Relays from April 12-14 at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. Admission is free.
