#4 Lady Vols Shut Down Maryland, 10-0

HONOLULU – The Tennessee softball team came to the island of Hawai'i to take part in the 2018 Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Classic. With Saturday's 10-0 win over Maryland, the Lady Vols went 6-0 doing their trip to the Aloha State.
Tennessee (30-1) struck first, plating a run in the top of the first when Chelsea Seggern singled to left center score Aubrey Leach.
The Big Orange added two more runs in the top of the third inning. With one out, Meghan Gregg hit her 11th home run of the season, a solo blast to right field. Treasury Poindexter, pinch-running for Seggern, scored on a stolen base to extend UT's lead to 3-0.
The Lady Vols added another run in the top half of the sixth when Gregg drew the four-pitch walk to score Cailin Hannon.
UT plated six runs in the top of the seventh. Brooke Langston crossed home plate on a fielding error by the pitcher. With the bases loaded, Leach drew a walk, scoring Abby Lockman. Katie Weimer drove in Ashley Morgan with a pinch-hit single to the second baseman. CJ McClain scored on the wild pitch, and two batters later Seggern singled to left field to score Leach. Brook Vines added an RBI single up the middle to score Holcomb and push UT's lead to 10-0.
Matty Moss (13-1) picked up the win, going four innings with five strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Caylan Arnold picked up her third save of the season, going three innings with six strikeouts and allowing just one hit.
Up next: Tennessee will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, and return to SEC play when the Lady Vols face South Carolina on Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will have an SEC Network+/WatchESPN broadcast.
