TEMPE, Ariz. – Abby Lockman's bases-clearing double in the seventh gave Tennessee softball a 6-5 walkoff win over No. 15 Utah on Saturday. With the win, the Lady Vols wrapped up the Kajikawa Classic with a mark of 6-0.
No. 11 Tennessee had to stage a comeback before the dramatic finish, as Utah led 5-0 after four and a half innings.
The Utes opened the contest with a three-run first inning, then tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth. But Utah left the bases loaded in that frame, and Tennessee responded in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs.
Aubrey Leach singled to left field to get things started, before scoring on a Chelsea Seggern triple. Scarlet McSwain followed that with a sacrifice fly to left, cutting the lead to 5-2.
Lockman cut the lead to 5-3 with a leadoff home run to right center, her first of the season, in the bottom of the sixth.
Meghan Gregg got things going in the bottom of the seventh with a double to right center, before C.J. McClain pinch ran for her. Seggern singled, then McSwain walked to load the bases with one out. A fielder's choice then left the Lady Vols with the bases loaded and two outs.
But Lockman came through again, rifling a double to left that scored all three runs and ended the game.
Lockman was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
Tennessee will be in Clearwater, Fla. this coming Friday through Sunday for the Michele Smith Tournament.
