Garrick Porteous has been named to the Division I Ping All-Southeast Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Tennessee's senior captain for 2011-12 already was an All-SEC second team selection after leading the Vols in scoring average at 72.25, a figure that ranks third on the UT charts since 1994. His career scoring mark of 73.38 is fifth in program history since 1994, and he also finished top-10 with 32 rounds of par or better.
In addition to his scoring average, Porteous led the squad in top-25 finishes with eight and had 31 of his 32 rounds count toward the team score.
Porteous played his season's best golf down the stretch, with three consecutive top-10 results and then a tie for 18th at the NCAA Stanford Regional. It was Tennessee's 13th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.
Porteous shot 69-72-68--209 and tied for seventh at the SEC Championship for his best career showing in that event. He recorded five top-10s this season and had seven for his career, all in a 15-month span to close out his Tennessee playing days.
The Morpeth, England, native is his country's current top-ranked amateur golfer and is playing with the England Elite Squad this summer. He plans to return to UT to complete his degree in studio art in the fall.
Last week, Porteous was named Tennessee's male representative on the SEC Golf Community Service Team. In addition to his work in the community, Porteous designed the poster for The Volscars student-athlete awards show and also led the charge for a Volscars award for Dr. Joe Whitney, UT's Director of Mental Training.
